PHISH - New Year’s Eve @ Madison Square Garden 2018-19
“For Phish’s annual New Year’s Eve show, streamed LIVE from Madison Square Garden, we once again capped off their final performance of yet another sold-out 4 Night Stand with a wonderful performance art piece that “landed” at Midnight. This show also marked their incredible achievement of 60 shows at at MSG. As in previous years, it was a complete privilege to work along Phish's longtime LD - Chris Kuroda, an incredible Lighting Designer in his own right, and along side Master Moving Light Programmer Andrew “Gif” Giffin. This year’s gag involved flying 10 acrobats that we “painted” using 10 “Phish Droids”. All of the motion was programmed by Paul Sapsis on the Tait Navigator System - which provided feed back to the lighting console in order to track the performers. An incredible feat of computer and mechanical engineering, neatly wrapped up into a beautiful, organic, human-based kinetic sculpture to ring in the New Year. The end product was beautiful to behold and based on the Audience reaction, I think it was our best gag yet! - MB
